Screen resolution / mouse offset bug

My screen is extra wide, with a standard resolution of 3440*1440. When desktop is set to this resolution it fills the entire screen, but the game gets two vertical black borders. Some button coordinates are also not in the same coordinate space as the mouse. For example all the buttons on the first screen work properly, but after I click "New Game", all the new buttons like difficulty, faction buttons, hero skills etc are all misaligned horisontally. E.g. I can only click a button when mouse cursor is left of the button.

When I change desktop resolution to 2560*1440 I get black vertical borders on my desktop. But when I launch the game with this desktop resolution, the game actually fills the entire screen, and all button coordinates are aligned with mouse coordinates.

Additionally, when using 2560*1440:

  • If I alt-tab out of game and back in again, I get vertical black borders. They disappear if I go to windowed and then back to fullscreen.
  • If computer goes to sleep, upon waking up, desktop is shown. When alt-tabbing back to the game, the game is windowed.

Please add alt+enter to toggle full screen.

If you got the game in a giveaway, you don't get the steam key?

Do you have to have the game installed to get the steam key? I don't see a purchase page?

Steam key is actually in the "Download" button way at the top:

Thanks, but I don't have that Download button. This is on my Mac (where it's not installed) so will I see that button on Windows?

It doesn't seem to show in the Itch.io app, going to the page on my regular web browser shows the button however.

I pulled it up on Windows and got it, thanks.

I found out today that starting a game with all players on the same team immediately triggers a win that counts for probably every applicable "Win a game" achievement. I already got some beforehand so I can't confirm if it works for all of them, but this exploit(?) earned me Nudist Run, Speedrunner, Any% PB and No time to waste.

(+2)

plz mac version! :)

(+1)

Is it maybe possible to add an option to turn off scrolling when the mouse is near the edge of the window? This is especially a problem with a multi-monitor setup if you need to move your mouse to another screen.

(-1)

I think now there is

Oh really? I could only find an option to disable the combat camera movement. Can you tell me where I can find the option? :) I'm on version 2.0.5 by the way

(-1)

I haven't actually checked so I guess there is no option sry

(4 edits) (+1)

Sadly, game has numerous problems with UI. It looks like it was developed with Full HD and higher resolutions, this collides with overall retro feel.

My review is based on demo version 2.0.5.

There is a bug with UI scale - when I set it to something different than 100% then button collisions have wrong offsets so I was forced to this setting, this is real joke. Also I have to click button one click after another to change UI scale by... 1%. Long button press doesn't work, painful.

Lexicon doesn't scale at all!

I play at 1280x1024 resolution, with UI scale 100% text is nearly unreadable, even with smooth option on. Small status icons also. Lexicon is one big pulp. I can build right buildings in city only because tooltips have bigger font. Upper status bar on battle screen is unreadable. Number of units blends together with unit portraits. There are many more annoying oddities but I don't want to make huge comment.

Every well done feature like amount of units, cities, map objects, unique mechanics and much more is nullified by cons which I wrote earlier.

I wouldn't pay full price for the game until UI will be seriously revamped.

(+3)

Actually have an update in QA which changes the way the game is rendered on screen to better support various screen sizes. I hope you'll like it when it comes out

(1 edit) (+1)

I have an eye on updates, no pressure - it's better to do fixes once and for all.

(1 edit) (-6)

Dude.

I'm not going to log in to my steam account via itch.io. That is just way to sketchy. If you want to live up to your promise you should make the key available from my itch.io account page. Didn't expect much to be honest, but his is kind of dissapointing.

Note that the steam log in page states that "Note that thingonitsown.itch.io is not affiliated with Steam or Valve". Not saying that this is intentional, but I for one wont jepoardise my steam login to redeem an 18 dollar game.

(+1)

I haven't heard anyone else with this kind of concern. The way I'm distributing the keys is the way that itch io allows. I don't know how I'd be able to make the key available from your itch Io account page, as you describe

(+1)(-3)

Neither do I. I am not a game developer and as such cannot be expected to know these things.

I am just informing you that I ,as a consumer, do not trust a .io website with the log in details to my steam library containing x amount of dollars worth of games to unlock a purchase of 18 dollars. Especially when I am expressly warned by the steam log in that itch.io is not affiliated with steam. Steam log-ins were leaked some ten years ago because third party sites sold user data to hackers. Humble bundle and other sites are affiliated with steam and as such I trust them more than itch.io.

An example of how to do it would I suppose be to do what the creators of the game "Torchlight" did a long time ago. Users were able to redeem steam codes once the game had made it on to steam by emailing the game developers through a specific email. The customer had to supply a copy of the receipt from the original transaction and were then emailed a steam code in return.

I imagine requesting these codes from steam  would entail a similar process to the one game developers go through when they send review copies out to memebers of the press.

Hello,I don't seem to have gotten a key.

Is there somewhere I can send you proof of purchase to get my key?

Thanks

(+1)(-1)

what are you talking about "dude"? you can redeem your key from inside your itch acc,..go to my library-> "download"->claim the key...then use that key to activate the game on your steam....you don't need to log in steam via itch.io lmao

(-2)

So tell me friend: How do I redeem said key via my itch.io library whitout signing in to steam? Since the prompt I get when I press "claim steam key" is to log in to my steam account... via itch.io?

Are there different viersions of the client? Do I have to download some sort of itch.io app?

Or did you just not comprehend my original message?"lmao"

I know it's late, but if you click on the sign in through steam button, Steam explains how this sign in works;

  • Your Steam login credentials will not be shared.
  • A unique numeric identifier will be shared with thingonitsown.itch.io. Through this, thingonitsown.itch.io will be able to identify your Steam community profile and access information about your Steam account according to your Profile Privacy Settings.
  • Any information on your Steam Profile page that is set to be publicly viewable may be accessed by thingonitsown.itch.io.

That should help alleviate any fears of your info getting compromised. Also I enabled 2FA several years ago. The only way to log into my account is through the app on my personal cell phone.  That all but eliminates risk of unauthorized logins.

Admin

itch.io will never see your password or have access to anything on your account other than what your Steam username is and any other public information on your Steam account. It use’s Steam’s oAauth login which is secure way of verifying your Steam identity to other platforms.

Hope that helps

Don't want to do this either. Every other Steam redeem is given via a code sent to the email associated with the purchase. This is normal, what's going on here is abnormal and should not be a requirement.

This just seems like an attempt to get more metadata on users or something else sketchy and is extremely disappointing and possibly constitutes fraud.

(+2)(-2)

big thx for this easy steam key gathering :D

(-1)

Love the new "Panda" faction.

Resources on / near the shores cannot be taken. Not from the sea, also not from the land.

Once I've encountered a ship near a ship yard, but the ship was on land, not on the sea (I could board it, but could not move, as expected, so I had to unboard again)

Steam Key distribution requires original email to confirm purchase, but the email I used back then, is now gone. Never mind, I prefer having it this way, so the Steam version is not needed at all.

(-2)

this game extremely needs multiplayer

(+1)(-1)

Congrats on this release & thanks for the Steam key!

ever time i reload the game it keep giving me

REGARDING STEAM KEYS FOR ITCH PURCHASERS:
Those who have bought the game on itch io can now redeem a key for steam.

This can be found on the purchase page, which can be found by logging into itch, going to your game library and clicking Hero's Hour, or by finding the email you were originally sent when you purchased the game.

Reviews on steam from users who haven't paid for the game will count for less, but this can be counteracted if you pick up the Supporter Edition DLC.

Hi, no Supporter Edition DLC on Itch ? It is only for Steam users ?

(1 edit) (+1)

Check on the download page for the game if you bought it here on itch, and the steam key is there now! Thanks for the key, dev!

I did buy the supporters DLC, but how do I enable the supporter edition sprites?

(+1)

Great game! The dev(s) is very active! Id like to say thank you for the steam key as I only used itch.io to get heros hours and find it slightly difficult to navigate itch for the updates you frequently release so the steam key was a wonderful gift, will make keeping up to date with Hero's hour much easier and now I can add it to my steam collection :) cheers!

In 2.0.4b there is an error in the tutorial. It isn't possible to purchase Goblin Gunners in the first city without first building the Workshop. The need to build the Workshop isn't noted as a step in the tutorial.

(+1)

The building "Tech-tree" is randomized for each game, I guess that includes the tutorial

fixeed! This was a silly mistake I wouldn't have caught if not for you

(1 edit)

in 2.0.4b, korean translate of 'Curse' is somehow translate as 'stronger enemy' guess should 'weaker enemey'

also 'over rampart' and 'open gate' reversed translate issue still exist.

(icon seems okay)

guess it seems not affect on english and only affect on some language.

You can copy paste this into the translation-issues channel on Discord.

Can you add mod option for the 3 faction  bonuses that every faction has on lexicon  like infernal gate throne of dead and so on the sample mod faction doesn't have any. or the ability to choose what buildings  your faction has another cool mod option would be making spells

(-1)

if you have previous edition do you just delete it and redownload this version or is there a better way to do it haha

I have found a bug in skirmishes. When you play the custom one and start it you can give commands to both sides of the army. And when after this custom skirmish you start a normal one, where you buy your units for gold and fight a premade army... but here the controls for controlling both sides are still present. So the challenge is gone if you use it.

But when you start normal skirmish without starting the custom one, the controls are not present :)

So if you want you can cheat at these skirmishes this one, but i don't thing its a good thing :)

v2.0.0 the map dance of death is broken. it is impossible to reach the enemy in it due to misplacement of the guard post. (tested on GOG version but I couldn't find how to contact devs there)

actually why does itch.io say v2.0.1 but GOG say v2.0.0?

(+1)

I have a question.

Where can I get a steam key?

(+3)

You cant. Yet.

thank you

(+2)

We have to wait for Steam to give the devs the keys, as mentioned on the bottom of the description on this page

thank you

Hey there love the game so far!!! My only complaint is this: I like to play 2 vs 2 a lot (me and cpu vs 2 cpu) and like 9 times out of 10 my partner gets wrecked before it even gets out of the starting area D:

One newbie friendly strategy is start with Economic hero instead of combat ones, you can get early advantage like 60% discount to all building or Units and extra gold and unit generation
Than in week 2 or 3 you just buy combat hero and use those extra units to steamroll all neutral stacks and closest enemy AI or at least have powerful enough army to stall until your friend comes to help. Pillar faction seems to be exceptionally good at pulling this off. And they have quite powerful lineup of units.

This looks nice. Just one question: is the co-op online or couch?

hot seat so couch, but it's really easy to set up remote play and play with someone over internet

(+5)

Looking forward to getting my steam key, so I can also get the supporter pack DLC too!

Creation does not give option to create after winning a siege defense battle.

I made a map where I am under constant onslaught and barely defending in my castle. It is a lot of fun, but this skill that is pretty integral just does not do anything.

I am playing on the steam release version.

EDIT: I think it is caused by there not being a victory screen after defensive battles? I would also like to view the outcome of the battle, how many units I lost etc, it is just not there.

So, I would really love to play this game with my friends far away.  I know you've said multiplayer is kinda a lower priority, or at least I feel like I've seen that somewhere.  I'm wondering though, now that it's on steam, could you enable steam remote play?  This would allow me to play with my friends in hotseat mode even if they aren't anywhere near me.  Either way, thanks for the awesome game!! Just wanting to share it with more people!

(+2)

you could just use Parsec. it's like steam remote play but it seems more consistent with more settings to tweak. At least in my experience

(+1)

New update looks great! Shame about what you did to the demo, but I understand why you did it.

Yea, it's a bit sad. At least the two lower rings of buildings in town aren't as important as they might feel like

(+2)

Congrats on the Steam release :D

Steam keysssssssssssssssssssss :D Thanks for this great game man!

Congrats for the release! Exciting

(+19)
