Hi, loving the game! I have small problems when I play in full screen with my 21:9 ratio screen. Pressing buttons like "End turn" is hard because I have to aim bit right where the button actually is. Everything on the UI outside of menus are bit off.
I have this same problem. Things on the left side of the screen have their actual interaction zones moved to the left, and things on the right side have them moved to the right from where they should be based on the graphics.
Works fine in window mode, obviously, just not in full-screen mode.
Been playing the demo for some time now and just tried a large map with 6 players plus neutral army on for a bit with the latest update. Idk but the time it takes to load for the AI taking turns seems like to be taking fairly long. Could possibly speed it up more? Idk. For me it just seems to take so long, perhaps like a minute or two and that's just when the game is starting out, might take longer in the late game.
Aside from that I really like the game, can't wait for it to be more fleshed out. Though the factions as far as the demo goes anyway are a bit wonkey I think. By that I mean some things I think don't really fit with their lore and the likes. But I still like it, yes. Keep up the good work.
Almost forgot, the UI could still be improved as well like the map or mini map is it? Too big and takes up a lot of the screen when playing in larger maps. The UI scaling doesn't really help as it either makes everything too small or too large. When making the large maps ui decently small enough not to get in the way, everything else especially the text becomes too small and hard to read and such. The delete option in game for saves also disappears because of it I think, though you could always just manually delete the saves but yeah. On the note of saves, deleting the tutorial save still makes the game crash and unplayable, idk if I was just doing something wrong or if it was the game's problem. Had to reinstall the game. Might need to look into that as it might cause problems with the code and such later on? Idk but thought I should just mention that while I'm here.
Randomly crashers mid game too. The game just closes.
Haven't heard other people report this bug. It's either due having no disc space, moving the .exe from the folder or otherwise not extracting the game correctly, running the game without save/loading permissions, or similar OS related issues. Oh! Or if you mean loading saves, the issue could be if you're launching the game through the itch launcher. That doesn't work, for whatever reason.
another issue - necromany (got lvl 1 via an item) does only work partial drain mana does not work (does not add mana), i can use it to get creatures, sometimes it cost 0 mana to rez (for whatever reason)
Also some random crashes during travelling or fighting
Can it be played in window mode instead of full screen? Has issues with centering the menus on my dual monitor setup but only one screen is in game mode so I cannot interact with the menus. Can I change any settings directly in the options.ini file? Excited to try it out.
Hi all! Sorry for leaving all you commenters in the dark - I focus mostly on the discord these days! But I want to make sure you all see that v 1.7 has dropped - an absolutely enormous update with content, bug fixes, optimisations, more content, balancing, sound and music, more content, etc.
Ended up buying the full game since I read on the discord that we would be given steam keys.0
Found an issue between the old version and the 1.6.5 version in that the music just doesn't work anymore. I was used to it cutting out back when I had the free version but no troubleshooting brings it back sadly. - Just an FYI is all :)
Honestly loving the game and although I'd be very disappointed if the updates stopped coming but I wana say that you've done an outstanding job thus far. Thank you and keep up the good work.
This game has promise. But it has so overbearing issues it's nearly impossible to give positive feedback on. Instead, I will write the problems and solutions that you really need.
Problems:
It's impossible to know what, for example, "growth" means when half of the time it's called weekly growth, the other time it's called just growth. Is weekly growth different from normal growth? Is normal growth daily? No idea. I still have no concrete proof of when growth activates, but hey, at least you wrote it differently every time it's mentioned! Too many things just say "greatly improves" or +1 (random word which is not defined anywhere) I have no idea what ANYTHING does, because it seems like neither do you. It's not same as having no descriptions. It's like half of your descriptions actively mislead or straight-up lie.
Solutions:
Prevent crashes on every unintended behaviour by limiting player choice until you are absolutely sure the player can do it without crashing. Do not let me move the character before the map is loaded, so it won't crash. Do not let me move my units into Armor slots so it won't crash. Sometimes it feels like I have more options to crash the game in a specific menu than ways to close it normally.
Write code that renders the armour and magic stats' text dynamically based on their effects instead of writing in manually for every new item like a madman and then you have a playable demo. For example, do not write "item increases magic greatly" but instead, have the magic buff spell be "item increases magic by variable%". Now you only need to change the variable in code, instead of having to manually write everything and mess it up.
Even better if instead of "magic" resistance it's just a variable name itself, so it'd be: "itemtypevariable effectvariable typevariable valuevariable" so you can get stuff like: "Hat increases magic by 10" or "Leggings give 1 random spell"
It's very easy to code, saves time, and most importantly makes it possible to understand what the hell anything in the game does.
This is a very cool project being worked on by a small and likely inexperienced team. Your criticism is valid in some ways but not in others. I don’t think the concept of weekly growth is that complicated or hard to understand. There is no need to be a dickhead when giving otherwise good tips and criticism.
Hi hi! I'll let you know with v 1.7 there's a lot more accurate and a lot more numbers in the descriptions.
Your comment about it being "very easy to code" is useless. What's easy within your framework might not be easy within mine. And this is not me being lazy; I did the skill description update. But it was not very easy to code and it did not include doing any of the things you described, because that's not how my framework works.
Anyway, the game crashes when you drag a unit into an armor slot? I didn't know. I'll look at fixing that. Not sure what you mean about "don't let me move the character before the map is loaded". There's no such thing. Maybe you could instead tell me what you do to have this bug occur? Then I could actually fix it.
Had "cannot load" issue. (any saved position loaded = game froze. Only task manager could close it) Solution: I am running it from game directory and using "run as Admin". Less crashes and I can load all games again.
Just a question, does the destruction skill cause Meteor storm to trigger? Because when fighting with low level creatures that die easy I seem to wipe myself out with that.
Doesn't seem like it's working as intended.
Dev said on discord the skill will be changed to remove the comets as a randomly triggered option next update.
PSA: Set your game settings to Low Ram/ Low Stability for enhanced stability. Game stopped crashing once I did this.
Currently at endgame as Enclave on Hardcore Plus. I have to say this faction is insanely fun. The way the Leach and Swamp arrow synergize with the Hierophant is amazing. The Leach may be the best tier 1 tank unit, and the Swamp Arrow is the best masseable T1 archer unit. Deadeyes are better model for model but you only get a handful of those per week; you can spawn 20+ Swamp Arrows per week. Just a really good composition. The heroes are OK, a few skills work well with this composition but I was hoping one of them would have both the Archery skill tree plus the Swamp Arrow spawn+ buff. I'm playing with the one that spawns Leaches as that's the next best thing, with the Archery skill and Armour skill. If that combo also had the Swamp Arrow spawn it would be epic. I suspect that aside from the trick with Tide, Exclave is truly S tier. I haven't noticed a difference between +3 Beast Call and +7 Beast call as I currently have mass Beast Call gear due to the Hunt ability, not sure if it continues to scale past a certain point. As always the Order AI is the endgame boss and I'm currently trying to fight through 3 doomstacks, one of which has over 1000 units, ~50 of which are elites from multiple Factions. I've had a ton of fun with this playthrough as Enclave.
I'd say Order, Enclave, and Tide are top tier right now. Wild and Pyre both have really good aspects to them as well. No clue about Horde or Arcane. The worst faction in the game is Decay; I've played them the most and even with infinite free units you just cannot beat a medium to high tier faction. Decay's units are so terrible that even if you get hundreds of free Skeletons and Boneshooters you will still lose a fight against a medium sized Order AI or even Pyre. Decay's Elites cannot stand up to the enemy Elites at all, and many of the factions can out-sustain the # of models you can field at a time, or have sufficient AOE to just melt your free Skeleton army faster than you can spawn it. Had games where I had like 150 Boneshooters trying to DPS down the enemy while I spawned a hundred skeletons and I still got absolutely massacred. Even with a decent ball of 10 Liches and 4 T5 Cavalry the compositions other factions can field will melt you. Still, Decay is S tier in the fun department due to necromancy. The main reason Decay doesn't really work is that you just can't field a large enough models of your army to beat back the more efficient model-for-model opponents. Like 300 Bone Shooters plus Skeletons and a few elites will get melted by 50 mid-high tier enemies. Also, it's really hard to amass Bone Shooters as you cannot build them normally, you only get them through necromancy. This leaves you relying only on the Lich for ranged DPS which can be a problem.
I only play the Chaos map as I like playing against lots of AIs and the huge maps take forever to pass turns through the AI. The one issue with this map design is that sometimes you spawn literally adjacent to the AI and they hit you on Day 2 of the start of the game with their massive starting stack on Hardcore +. It is not possible to survive on Day 2 versus that. I think it should be designed so that you at least have 1 day of travel between the main bases of players.
I've had some crashes with the same issue described earlier where for some reason my C drive gets maxed out and I get a very scary crash. I was worried my PC wouldn't even start up again after that crash as I had to hold the power button due to Black Screen of death, and then it took forever for my PC to start up when I powered back on 30 seconds later. Having coded some myself I can see that there is something wrong with the way the game is coded if it's really crashing a modern gaming PC. When I was coding I'd sometimes trigger an infinite loop that would crash my PC in a similar fashion. I think there is something in the code that triggers an infinite loop or too many calculations as there aren't enough models on the screen to crash my PC under normal circumstances; I'm playing Bannerlord with like 300 3d models fighting without similar lag.
Is there a game wiki setup yet? I currently have thousands of units in my Soul siphon and was wondering how the mechanics work between that and the hospital.
refuel it with mercury, you get 10 beacon power per mercury and from what I have experienced the soul beacon can consume up to ~500 beacon power a day if you have a lot of unit waiting to be resurrected. If not refueled they will be resurrected very slowly (place your cursor on "Beacon multiplier" to see the rate)
Keep having the game crash (latest free version) after a couple hours. I think it's a matter of using up memory. I have 16 gb of ram, but a quad core processor. This happens in longer play sessions, so stopping after an hour or two doesn't prevents it, and is something to help make sure I don't spend all night playing. I'm new to this site so dubious about buying things with new sites but will definitely purchase on steam and buy a few copies as gifts.
It's worth mentioning the autosave is a pretty great feature. It helps reset the day in case of crash. Restarting the computer and then restarting the game everything works again.
Also found out about the game through the Spiffing Brit channel. Great work all around.
The latest version seems to improve performance and gameplay compared to 1.5.4 but battles are still very laggy. It seems like you've improved some things by using more memory but the whole game is still single threaded. Performance could increase drastically if you at least tried to use a couple more threads. What engine are you guys using? In-house?
Hi everyone, try to set memory usage to minimum in the game settings, only had 1 or 2 crash in ~40hours since I did that on 7player/7 neutral biggest map (crash after ending a day and the auto save so nothing lost, no error message).
I just wanted to say keep up the great work, I’m loving the game and it’s easy to understand once you try it for a bit, I do have a question tho which is just what In general is unit power and whey is it limiting? Oh and also is there a way to select a specific number of a unit in any situation or transfer?
Good game. A bit janky, I find that each faction has a mechanic that is kind of insanely OP, so you are in a bit of a game of who can use their janky mechanic first to win the fight. For example I recently played a game on Hardcore + where I was doing very well with Decay, which is considered OP due to necromancy mechanics to turn dead enemies into weak troops for yourself. After killing a massive Order stack with roughly 60% of my entire force wiped out despite necromancy, I faced a small stack of Lament. Lament cast a hex spell on my main force- roughly 100 Boneshooters, which is basically the same as wiping them out as they just derp forward as frogs then get slaughtered. On another occasion the enemy faction had a single unit hitting me with burn that I was unable to target specifically as it was in the middle of a pack of other units, that one burn propagating through my mass archers killed like 80 archers over the course of the round. On the flip side I can play Lament myself or get Hex or Burn through other means but it still seems a bit too much like I'm in a nuclear war and it's all about who gets the first strike with their insanely OP spell and the armies are nearly irrelevant.
I have a weird issue where my C drive gets maxed out when playing this game. I have 4 GB/ 100 GB available on my C Drive and most of my games/ files are on a separate Drive which has 500 gb available. The game files are in my D drive.
I'll notice mid game/ late game mid fight that my FPS drops to like 2. I check my C drive and I have 100 mb left. When I quit the game the 4 GB space comes back.
My PC has 8 gb RAM which seems to be insufficient for this game. I'm playing all new released games on high settings no problem.
Late game is very ram hungry and eventually crashes do to lack of free memory. After battles the ram usage stays high, I have 32GB and after some larger battles it stayed between 17GB and 25GB (used just by the game).
As of 1.6.5 , Heads-up ThingOnItsOwn with custom map creation docks is under it's own category and adventure, the one under adventure crashes the game now.
Cant load games since the most recent patch. Love the game, just dont know where to post this bug so hopefully Dev sees this. Game just crashes every time i try to load one. Thx for all your great work
The demo version broke my monitor(and probably something else). When playing the game takes more and more memory at the point where it crashes not the game but the entire pc(everything i had in the background ended crashing as well), so buy the game or play the free version that is the same as a virus. Apart of that the game is very good, already played +20hours and Hardsoul character is op.
This game is absolutely fantastic. I also LOVE the demo model it's using. Being able to try the whole game out really game me a chance to see what it was all about, and after about an hour of play, I wishlisted it on Steam and bought it here. My biggest concern so far is this crash that happens every time I get pretty deep into a game. I'll get this error to crash the game out, and then another one when I try to load the saves. With the update history I've seen so far, I'm sure it'll get fixed in the near future.
9/10 in current state. Will recommend to all my friends, if you add content and or dlc, this game could last a very long time into the foreseeable future, or create a foundation for the success of coming successors if planed.
Excellent game! Seriously, you've done a great job of bringing back that Master of Magic look and feel and even the replayability. I really appreciate you putting in so much variety that the game never gets stale or repetitive. I love everything about the game, the graphics the music, the gameplay! You've done in 40mb's what most studios have tried to recreate in gigabytes and years of work. Keep it up, I'll be here enjoying your game and waiting for more. I do have some suggestions: please make scrolling through heros easier by letting me click on their portrait even if I'm looking at their stats/spell page or add a way to cycle through them in their name at the top of their stats profile. Its annoying to have to escape their profile just to go click another to get to the same profile I was just looking at. Just a minor QoL change. Game is awesome either way!
Absolutely love this game and recommend it to anyone. It crashes my Alienware tower seemingly every 5 minutes but its so good I just sigh and wait for the reboot so I can load it up again.

I like the in this game. :)
I have purchased the itch-version. Will I get a key for the Steam Version once it gets released there? I can't seem to find an answer, sorry.
He writes below: "if you buy before steam release, you'll be able to redeem a steam key when it does launch on steam!"
crashes happen if I save pls fix
Haven't heard other people report this bug. It's either due having no disc space, moving the .exe from the folder or otherwise not extracting the game correctly, running the game without save/loading permissions, or similar OS related issues.
Oh! Or if you mean loading saves, the issue could be if you're launching the game through the itch launcher. That doesn't work, for whatever reason.
another issue - necromany (got lvl 1 via an item) does only work partial
drain mana does not work (does not add mana), i can use it to get creatures, sometimes it cost 0 mana to rez (for whatever reason)
Also some random crashes during travelling or fighting
Thats how necromancy works now. Instead of giving mana, you receive a discount for next rez
i use win rar but if i save on my new world it save perfectly fine if i load my og world and save it will crash me to desktop.
i realised my map is not in the new update rip 15 weeks :(
Can it be played in window mode instead of full screen? Has issues with centering the menus on my dual monitor setup but only one screen is in game mode so I cannot interact with the menus. Can I change any settings directly in the options.ini file? Excited to try it out.

yea, if you run it through the itch launcher, the game does not work. This is super weird and I have no explanation for it
I would blame the location - that is used by default...
c:\Users\<user>\AppData\Roaming\itch\apps\heros-hour\
AppData is extremely sensitive under Windows. And hence any HDD activity there is pretty restricted by default.
Would be worth a try changing the install location to something like C:\Games\Heros-Hour\ and see if the save/load issue persists.
At least on my Win 8.1 x64 Pro - Anything under AppData works badly.
20% VAT added for UK purchases? what kind of sales setup are you running here?
that's just how itch works
Just a question, does the destruction skill cause Meteor storm to trigger? Because when fighting with low level creatures that die easy I seem to wipe myself out with that.Doesn't seem like it's working as intended.

I have run into an issue where when i try to buy hell fort units and each time i do it actively crashes the game

I play on a old acer 4core 8gb no graphic card.
Gonna try this, good idea thank you.
Game is great though :)
I see some performance issues with this patch.
Starting a new day takes a lot of time and it took 10-11GB RAM.
Didn't have this problem on the same map medium maps on 1.5.3.
Two comments for improvement:
Bug Fix for Clues Required: After a game crash/reload the clues that were struck out reset and prevent future clue hunting.
Beating an Impossible Army should also give a Desperado Achievement. I achieved this twice, once with curse spells and once with anima spell spam.
Any Linux builds?
@thingonitsown
Heyya, I love your work, i just would like to know if you'd be ok with modding of this game or if your going to integrate modding support.
Apart of that the game is very good, already played +20hours and Hardsoul character is op.
i have the same issue but the game is great, hoping they fix the memory issue soon tho :)
So there is a chunky memory leak here. Good to know
Every time I click on tutorial it crashes the game and itch. It won't even let me close or restart the game for some reason.
I tried launching the game and this came up what should I do
